Work > Specialist

The use of wartime photos relate to the creation of the Smokes in that they seek to preserve and glorify a fleeting moment in time. The act of burning simultaneously creates a new object and conflicts with the need to hold on to something that is inherently temporary and finite. To create the smoke used in the Specialist, slides of old artwork and an unfinished portrait of my late father were burned.
